Welcome to Cannon Psychology
Hello and welcome, I’m Dr Sarah Cannon-Gibbs. A Chartered Counselling Psychologist with over ten years’ experience working in adult mental health. I am registered with the HCPC, and a chartered member of the British Psychological Society. I understand that it can be overwhelming and often confusing knowing where to start when it comes to accessing psychological therapy. I hope this website helps answer your questions, if not please do drop me a line – firstname.lastname@example.org.
What I work with
I work with individuals and couples. Having gained much of my training and experience in NHS adult mental health settings, I have worked with a wide range of emotional, psychological and relationship difficulties. My work has been with men, women and couples from a wide range of diverse backgrounds and with a range of presentations including, depression, anxiety, interpersonal difficulties, trauma and relationship difficulties. I have gained specialist training working with borderline personality disorder and emotion regulation difficulties.
One of my beliefs is that everyone has mental health, however, I believe, it occurs along a spectrum, at varying different degrees and causing varying levels of distress to an individual. Prior to my doctoral training at City University, London, my first degree was in Sociology so I have a particular interest in how your experience and difficulties fit into the context of your gender, age, race, ethnicity, culture and sexuality for example. I am interested in your experience of your mental health which will enable us to establish the best way in working together for you.
My style as a Counselling Psychologist
My style is relational and collaborative. To allow for change, I am sensitively challenging as well as transparent. I believe individuals and couples come to therapy because they want something to change or something to be different. For you, you might know exactly what that change is that you want. However, you might not know exactly what that it is other than something feels like it needs to be different. My experience has meant that I have completed 1000’s of therapy hours and I am well versed at sitting with high levels of emotional distress. The benefit of having trained integratively as a Psychologist is that I have been trained in a number of therapeutic models, (CBT, Psychodynamic, Humanistic, DBT, Schema) which means therapy can be tailored for you and created anew each time, giving us the choice to either be more structured and logical or more fluid and creative.

Work with me
It is important for me to understand how your difficulties are impacting your life, day to day, and what your experiences of these difficulties are so we can figure out how psychological therapy can best help you. I do not believe in a ‘one size fits all’ therapy service.
